Managing Diversity - Exercise

Regarding the case that we developed in class we ranked the 5 characters of the history from 1 to 5, being 1 the less offensive and 5 the most.

Simbad: 5
Abigail: 4
Gregory: 3
Ivan: 2
Slug:1

We think that the proposal that Simbad did to abigail was inmoral but at the same time abigail shouldn't have agreed to that proposal and neither shouldn't have showed good about Slug beating Gregory. Gregory also had a wrong position because if he loved abigail he shouldn't have rejected her so easily.
Ivan and slug, both have questionable attitudes but there are not such offensive as the attitudes of the other 3. That's why we ranked Ivan 2 and Slug 1.

  1. I agree with your decission, I think Sinbad is very inmoral, he could have helped Abigail as many people help each other, I like your blog is very nice.

  2. After reading a couple of blogs of the classmates, I´ve found out that many people don't judge Slugs's actions. I can't easily understand this, as he was the only one in the story who used violence against another person. In terms of laws, for example, he was the only one who broke the law.

Many people have judged Sinbad's actions, and I agree that he didn't actually do a good deed as he only offered to take Abigail to the other shore in exchange for sex. But at the end, he just presented this option or trade to Abigail, he didn't force her to do anything. Yes, he was sleazy for presenting this kind of trade and yes, Abigail's sexual moral was low, but these people didn't hurt anyone and they both had the right to choose and live as free individuals.

As Slug decided to use violence against another human being, he seriously violated all the moral codes and didn't leave any choice to his victim.
